Clarissa Ribeiro, architect, media artist and researcher, Ph.D. in Arts (ECA US Brazil/CAiiA node Planetary Collegium, UK), Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship awardee (UCLA, Art|Sci Center/James Gimzewski Lab, US), M.Arch. (IA USP, Brazil), B.Arch, member of the UCLA Art|Sci Collective since 2013, collaborating as an instructor for the Sci|Art Summer Institute in several editions, is the chair of the first Leonardo/ISAST LASER talks to be hosted in Brazil/Latin America (2017). Clarissa directs the LIP – Lab for Innovation and Prototyping at the University of Fortaleza and the CrossLab research group and art collective. She is a Professor of Experimental Design Strategies and Structural Form Finding and Generative Design Studio (Unit 4) exploring the use of algorithms in Architecture and Urban Planning at the same institution. As an independent artist, working in collaboration with artists, scientists, research groups and art collectives in her home country and abroad, she has been producing and exhibiting internationally. The core of her explorations is the interest in cross-scale emergent based informational and communication dynamics, believing in a continuum between the biological and the electronic. Her most recent works have been exhibited in Australia (SIGGRAPH Asia, Brisbane, 2019), Europe (Planetary Collegium’s Consciousness Reframed Conference curated exhibition, Porto/Portugal, 2019) (EVAC POM – Politics of the Machine exhibition, 2019, Copenhagen/Denmark), South Africa (ISEA 2018, Durban), South America (ISEA 2017, Manizales/Colombia), US (IEEE VIS ART 2017, Phoenix/Arizona). She is the principal of OI.SE.AU Office for Sentient Architecture.
